I live and work in Pembroke Pines - and my family and I love it here! The family-friendly vibes, while being just a quick drive to the beach, or Miami and Fort Lauderdale have made this city the perfect place for our family to call home.
I graduated from our local high school (Charles W. Flangan High school - Go Falcons!), have taken my children to countless story times at the local libraries, and have just been amazed at the city's growth. I am so grateful to have established my own therapy practice in this beautiful, welcoming city.
Getting to our Office in Pembroke Pines
My office is located in Pembroke Pines, Florida (near I-75 and Pines Blvd). This location is convenient for individuals living in Pembroke Pines and its surrounding areas.
Everyone knows where our local Costco is (the corner of Pines Blvd. & Dykes Road)! My office is in the shopping plaza across the street (Pines Blvd.) from Costco. On the first floor you can find Starbucks and Chipotle.
CBT and ERP therapy in Pembroke Pines
So many places in Pembroke Pines offer excellent opportunities for exposures, which isa key part of effective therapy for anxiety and OCD for children and adults!
When working on social anxiety related worries, we often head downstairs to Starbucks to strike up conversation with unfamiliar people or to practice casual interactions at Jeremiah's Italian Ice.
When working with children or adults who struggle with contamination OCD, heading over to the Pembroke Lakes Mallprovides excellent exposure practice. While at the mall, we'll often head to the food court, go in public restrooms, sit in benches and chairs, and generally practice being in communal areas.
If your childstruggles with shyness and speaking to unfamiliar kids, going to a playground at Chapel Trail Park or C.B. Smith Park gives us an opportunity to practice our CBT strategies when striking up conversation with unfamiliar peers.
Dr. Penela's Personal Favorite Spots in Pembroke Pines!
Los Tacos - this Mexican restaurant (on Pines Blvd. & 178th Ave.) is a family fave. On Friday nights they have Mariachis perform and our kids are huge fans! Their ceviche with nacho chips are amazing.
Pines Ice Arena - Especially during the summer when we're looking for places to stay cool and have fun, the Pines Ice Arena is a great spot to get together with friends, skate (and practice falling and making mistakes!).
Costco - who doesn't love Costco? Organic food and reasonable prices, $10 pizza pies (!), and great customer services. This is a go-to for our family for all kinds of essentials.
If you live in Pembroke Pines, and struggle with anxiety or OCD challenges, I'd love for us to work together in therapy to help you learn effective CBT and ERP tools to get your life back on track!
